John is a Surgeon, who retired from the United Kingdon National Health Service some years ago and has since focussed his skills and energy for humanitarian work mainly in low-income countries.

After surgical training, he spent time researching the impact of environmental pollutants on the cause of breast cancer, obtaining a PhD. He was the Director of a large breast screening programme and pioneered the introduction in his department of a Quality Management System, leading to external accreditation.

He has been a Rotarian for over 30 years and was District Governor for D1040 during 2008-9. He led several teams of volunteers to India to participate in National Polio Immunisation campaigns and has been involved in many international humanitarian projects.

He chairs the Rotary Fellowship of Healthcare Professionals and is currently involved in an international initiative to improve patient safety in healthcare and also a campaign to ensure that medical equipment donations are done in a safe and sustainable manner.

As a Rotary Foundation Cadre Coordinator, he has been involved in auditing and evaluating projects in different countries.
